A RADICAL STORY

It’s a track-day weapon, a time-attack vehicle and a race-bred competition car. Radical arrived at Hampton Downs race circuit in mid-December, 2020.

The man behind the arrival of these cars is Greg Brinck, former NZ Champion motocross, touring car and offshore powerboat racer.

The Radical NZ HQ is based track side at Hampton Downs (next to Toyota Gazoo NZ) and is primarily focused in supporting the successful Hampton Downs GT Membership model which also includes Taupo Motorsport Park and Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.

“Our key focus is to offer the ultimate track car ownership package for those who want the ease of being able to turn up at the track and enjoy their day without the hassle of transporting the car and running it themselves,” says Brinck.

The Radical sportscar range offers something for all drivers. Starting at $180k for the SR3XXR through to the incredible Radical RXC Spyder at $450k, Radical NZ offers buyers a range of add-ons and options including tuning, pre- and post-race servicing, storage and more. Radical NZ has the convenience of being track side making accessibility an ease.

Purchase prices also include membership to the prestigious Hampton Downs GT Club, giving owners access to track days, mentoring and more. Customers can add to their cars’ already extensive specification to produce a tailor-made package to suit their tastes and budgets.

“People love the cars, the performance, the simplicity of the relationship – and the GT Club membership that really adds to the ownership experience.” - Greg Brinck

Designed and built in the UK, Radicals have been racing since 1999. Today’s models have a clear heritage line back to the first Radicals and feature a full race spaceframe chassis and formula-car style suspension and brakes, clad in a slippery aerodynamic body with a flat undertray and full wing package. They use tuned motorcycle engines built in-house specifically for them, while the brand launches in New Zealand with the SR3XX and SR10 models.

The SR3 XXR launch model runs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder Suzuki Hayabusa engine and motorcycle-style sequential transmission with paddle shift and Quaife limited-slip differential. It can produce 168kW of power, has a 0-100kph time of just over three seconds and a top speed of 236.5kph. On Hankook slicks and in the hands of current NZ V8 & NZ Sportscar Champion, Tim Edgell,  the Radical SR10 is capable of 1.01 Lap time on the Hampton Downs National circuit.
